Anthony King is a partner, and a registered patent attorney at the firm’s Southern California office. He is a former U.S. Patent Examiner from Group 3700, Medical Device Division, of the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office. He works on a variety of intellectual property matters including patent prosecution, patent infringement opinion work, trademark, and copyright.

Mr. King counsels individual inventors and corporations on a variety of topics including product development and patenting strategy, patentability analysis, patent infringement analysis, freedom-to-operate opinions, patent invalidity, patent portfolio building, appeals to the Board of Patent Appeals and Interferences, biotechnology and pharmaceutical patents, medical device patents, mechanical device patents, video game patents, telecommunication patents, trademark prosecution, copyright registration, and international protections of intellectual properties.

Mr. King also acts as the U.S. prosecution counsel for a number of foreign intellectual property law firms. His office assists these foreign law firms in managing and prosecuting their clients' U.S. patent and trademark portfolios. His team of professionals has the ability to handle technologies relating to mechanical device, chip design, semiconductor, electronics, computer hardware and software, medical device, and biotechnology.

Prior to WPAT, P.C., Mr. King worked at Rutan & Tucker, LLP and Williams & Connolly, LLP. With a strong interest in the business aspects of technology, he co-founded the Hopkins Biotech Network (www.hopkinsbiotechnetwork.org), a non-profit organization bridging the biotechnology industry with academia in education, career development, and networking. And as a fluent speaker in Mandarin Chinese, he has lectured at National Chung Hsing University and National Normal University in Taiwan, on various topics relating to intellectual property protection.

Mr. King received his Juris Doctor degree from George Mason University School of Law in 2002, there he completed a specialization track in Intellectual Property law under the training of legal luminaries such as Federal Circuit Court Judge the Honorable Pauline Newman, former Commissioner of the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office the Honorable Jerald Messinghoff, and the Honorable Kimberly Moore, now Federal Circuit Court Judge.

He also received his Master of Science degree in Biotechnology from the Johns Hopkins University, and his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of Maryland. In addition, he has studied Chinese law at Beijing University, in Beijing, China.
